Rino began his musical studies at the Conservatory of Music “A. Vivaldi” in Alessandria.
Afterwards, he perfected himself with his teacher, the Tenor M° Andrea Elena.
He carries out an intense concert activity in Italy and abroad.
He participates in some international singing competitions achieving excellent results: he wins the XVth Competition “Spiro Argiris” which is part of the Sarzana Opera Festival, the competition “Enzo Sordello” by Cuneo which is worth the writing inherent to the role of Rodolfo in La Bohéme by G. Puccini.
Matafù's eclectic vocality arouses interest and flattering appreciations are dedicated to him by illustrious artists such as the soprano Daniela Dessì, the tenor Fabio Armilliato, the tenor Nicola Martinucci, the soprano Renata Scotto and the tenor Luigi Alva, from whom he also receives valuable advice and encouragement for the well-deserved career.
The enthusiasm that he manages to arouse in the public that applauds him with conviction represents a valuable business card that proposes the undeniable value of the Artist.
In November 2015 he debuted the role of Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Teatro Cantero in Chiavari, directed by Maestro Stefano Giaroli.
In October 2015 he participated in some concerts at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, arousing attention and interest and obtaining the commitment as a cover of the role of Rodolfo in La Bohéme.
In March 2016 he is Ismaele in the Verdian Nabucco at the Petruzzelli theater in Bari.
In the same month comes the American debut with the Duke of Mantova in Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto at the International Opera Center of America in Orlando - Florida, with the conducting of maestro Bill Doherty and the staging of Andrea Elena.
In 2017 he was cast for a tour in which he sings the role of Alfredo in Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata. Numerous important French theaters value the excellent performance that obtains wide acclaim from the public and critics.
Also in 2017 he returns to wear the role of the Duca di Mantova in the Rigoletto staged at the Royal Palace of Colorno, in July, and in Pavia, in September.
During the year 2028 numerous concerts see him in various parts of Italy, including in the Verdian territory where, directed by the master Silvano Frontalini, he performs in honor of the Cigno di Busseto.
In May 2019 he is invited to carry out an audition with the master Ezio Bosso who chooses Rino Matafù entrusting him with the difficult tenor role of Gioachino Rossini's Stabat Mater. Organized by the Pavarotti Foundation, the work is performed in the Cathedral of Todi. The great success achieved is a reason for the satisfaction of the Artistic Director Nicoletta Mantovani, wife of Luciano Pavarotti.
In November 2019 he made his debut in Spain with the leading role of Gustavo (Riccardo) in Giuseppe Verdi's Ballo in Maschera at the Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo.
From 2020 to 2022 the pandemic creates an obligatory stop to the professional activity of the Matafù tenor who, at the end of Covid, starts from scratch performing concerts in different locations, invited by lyrical associations of Emilia Romagna.
In July 2022 he sings at the theater of Zibello (province of Parma Terre Verdiane) for the 8th year since the death of the tenor Carlo Bergonzi, with the presence of Mrs. Bergonzi, wife of the great tenor.
In the same period he is present in Busseto, at the Tebaldi Museum, where he performs for the centenary since the birth of the great soprano Renata Tebaldi.
In January 2023, on the occasion of the anniversary of the death of Giuseppe Verdi, he is invited to sing in the Barezzi house/museum, in Busseto. An exclusive and flattering invitation.
In April 2023 he is still Rodolfo in La Bohème at the "Centro Cultural Amaia" in Irún (Spain - Basque Country) under the direction of maestro Aldo Salvagno.
In June 18, 2023, a Lyrical recital for the Amici della Lirica of Piacenza with opera arias and Italian and Neapolitan songs as a tribute and tribute to the great Enrico Caruso.
He performed in Concert at the Cathedral of Moncalieri and the Sanctuary of Vicoforte (Recital) Concert of the “Three Tenors” with the orchestra Bartolomeo Bruni di Cuneo conducted by Maestro Aldo Salvagno.
It was Alfredo in La Traviata at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan directed by Maestro Filippo Dadone.
Prestigious Concerto for the 50th Anniversary since the foundation of the Association of Friends of the Loggione of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan held at the Cariplo Auditorium in Milan with the Symphony Orchestra of Milan conducted by Maestro Massimo Fiocchi Malaspina.
Among the next commitments a tour dedicated to La Bohéme in the United States of America, with the European Opera Theater.
The engraving of the unpublished ''Mmiez 'a via'", a song written by the Neapolitan artist Nina Monaco with participation in the broadcast Television.
Recently, in collaboration with his brother Valerio, a valuable guitarist, Rino Matafù has dedicated himself to the publication of several video clips in which he performs facing a heterogeneous repertoire that performs in English, French, Spanish and Japanese. The circuiting on the internet of these works has obtained multiple visualizations and consequent excellent appreciations.
